Donner Variety Show - Too Hot to Handle! -

Starting the musical evening with Let it Snow, Too Hot to Handle provided a great show at Donner shelter house for over 100 attendees. Dancing, foot taping, a little singing and several jokes kept the evening moving in the nearly 100 degree heat. Watching the band play 50's, 60's, and current tunes caused me to remember my father, Jacque Palmer, who was a trumpet player in a dance band from his high school days through most of my life. Annual Kiwanis Chicken BBQ -

BBQ Update. The 2010 Kiwanis Chicken BBQ at the Bartholomew County 4H Fair is over for another year. Over 3700 meals were served. Assisting the club, the Columbus East Band Boosters and band members worked over 50% of the hours that the booth was open for prep or meal service.

From Just One Pancake, the legacy of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus (Evening) was born. Since 1947 the annual "Pancakes to Educate" fund raiser has been held allowing the club to assist 629 Columbus High School graduating seniors attending college with 4-year interest free loans and one year grants. Club Scholarship Chair Phil Tapp was proud to introduce this years recipients at Monday night's club meeting. Interests of the seniors include band, choir, cheer, dance, 4H, track and basketball. Club members wrapped presents for local youth facilities Youth Hope and George Jr at December 14th meeting. John Anderson's speaker was Rick Weinheimer, Coach of the Columbus North Men's and Women's Cross Country teams. Rick shared his can do approach to life. Happy holidays.

Excitement reigned as nearly 240 elementary school students converged on Columbus' Foundation for Youth last Sunday for the 2009 Columbus First Lego League Qualifying Tournament. The event supported by the Robert N. Brown endowment of the Heritage Fund is the fourth time the qualifying tournament has been hosted in Columbus.

Ethnic Expo Parade Well Received -

Parade on Brown and Washington streets in Columbus as part of the 25th annual Ethnic Expo was a hugh success. Compliments by many community members were received. The Evening Kiwanis Club has been responsible for staging the event for the past four years and will be doing so again in 2010! Pictured in the photo is the Chinese Ladies Dance team.
